How do I take the forked history feature around the barn and send it to the farm?

Hi!

For context, I am usually a very calm and reasonable person, but this earlier/later bullshit is having me contemplating taking a 5 year course in kick boxing, just so I can beat the living shit out of my computer.

I very often, somehow, trigger this... absolute GEM of a 'feature' and end up at what seems like the very beginning of my workday. I have set A-u and A-U to no_op, thinking I somehow caused a repeat action, but no... still happens... You think a hammer to the CPU would do the job?

I am a committed man, meaning, if it wasn't for the neck beard, belly and all my glorious sweating, I am sure I would be super popular with the ladies. So please understand, I only need linear undo/redo and Helix is actively working on starting world war 3 is not something I need in my life... Can anyone help?

1. Does either show up in the command picker, filter with %binding A-u/U?
2. Is it universal or for a specific project? (It's possible it's being overriden in another loaded config)
3. Does it behave the same in select mode?
4. is this the same config you get with :config-open?
5. Try binding A-u/U to something else, then bound to no_op. Does it have the desiled effect? Do the same for other permutations of A-. Same?
6. Can you disable other defaults, eg <space>-f?

1. No, they do not show up in the command picker.
2. it's universal.
3. No idea, because I have disabled A-u/U, I honestly don't know what is triggering it.
4. Yes, I am on NixOS, my configuration is built and applied or rebuild, holistically across the whole system. It is rare that I make a local config.
5. I should have been more clear on this, A-u/U is disabled, I can't use them. but I still somehow move across history every now and then.
6. yes, I can disable things just fine. This is why I want to suplex the 'feature' right back in history where it belongs.

I can't tell what the problem really is because it seems that it's working as intended except for it triggering spontaneously.

So, are you sure something else isn't causing all this?

if you are, my advice:

1. actually bind A-u/U to any useful commands you often use, so it at least does something you care about
2. (drastic) if you're able to compile from source, just comment out this lines, https://github.com/helix-editor/helix/blob/master/helix-term%2Fsrc%2Fkeymap%2Fdefault.rs#L151-L152, and recompile it. the binding should be nuked then

Yeah, I am in the same boat. I have tried to replicate it but to no avail. It is difficult to be sure, but I think it might be happening somewhere when going from insert mode to normal mode and start moving the cursor. But that is just a feeling I have because it always catches me off-guard.

No, I cannot be sure about anything. What I can say for sure is that i don't have any odd reoccurring behavior elsewhere on my machine. And Occam's razor suggests it's either me or Helix, and I have been trying to remove me from the equation. It could be that it's not A-u/U thought, is there a similar feature or a similar way to trigger said system? (except for writing :later x / :earlier x)

I will try it binding it to something functional in the hopes that it will help Thank you.
also, thank you for pointing me to the Helix bindings. do you know if custom bindings are under a runtime check? and if the original bindings then are defaulted to if that check fails?

any errors in your config will be reported by Helix before startup or at runtime, and it falls back to default (startup) or previous valid value (runtime)

PS: you can also bind :later/earlier to other keys instead of A-u/U

It is helping me... I think that should be clear. Also, there is no name given to said 'feature' that I can find. I
lost 3 hours of work on my framebuffer due to this, so either I vent or I become an ass, I like to go with the prior.
