rtpMIDI GUI refresh problems?

Hello,

I have repeatedly noticed that the rtpMIDI GUI does not refresh correctly. My ESP32 often does not appear as a participant in a session, even though a working connection exists. When I close and reopen the GUI, my ESP32 is displayed correctly. This happens on Windows 10, rtpMIDI 1.1.14, and Apple Bonjour 3.0.0.10.

By "rtpMIDI GUI" you means the tool by Tobias Erichsen , correct?

I have noticed this is as well, and I believe is related to either the rtpMidi tool (I have tried to contact Tobias, but no response) or to the underlying Bonjour/MDNS library.

There is a newer version by Arduino: https://github.com/arduino-libraries/ArduinoMDNS - try with this one and let us know!

thank you for your quick reply. The refresh issue with rtpMIDI can be handled once you know about it.
I think Tobias simply has other things to do at the moment. The last release of his software was back in 2019.
During Covid people still had plenty of time ;-)
I will give ArduinoMDNS a try.

In my case things look a bit different. I wanted a complete plug-and-play system for your Apple-MIDI transport layer, since I work in different network environments on different machines.
I only need MIDI to tune various algorithms I am currently working on at runtime using a MIDI controller.

That’s why I started to implement the entire DNS handling myself, including announcements, queries, query responses, etc. I have made good progress with that by now, with ChatGPT and Claude “helping” me along the way.

I started this discussion to gather the different pitfalls that can generally occur when using Apple-MIDI. Maybe others here know of more things that need to be considered, or that aren’t immediately obvious?
