The positron remote ssh always disconnects inexplicably

The positron remote ssh always disconnects inexplicably. Are there any corresponding parameters that can be adjusted? Currently, it is disconnected every few minutes, which is quite regular.

Hey @coolderli, thanks for the post. That seems very annoying!

I haven't encountered anything like this before so I'm interested in more information.

• What exactly happens when it disconnects? Does Positron crash, or freeze, or are you taken back to a local workspace, or something else?
• Do you see any error messages when this happens? Could you attach a screenshot or screen recording?
• Curious if this is Positron-specific. Does it happen if you use VS Code's Remote SSH feature? Or if you connect via the command line (with ssh ...) are you disconnected at a similar frequency? If so, the problem may be with your network or remote machine.

@austin3dickey Thank you very much for your reply. I consider Positron to be an excellent IDE (Integrated Development Environment). Currently, I am facing a significant issue: within the company, I need to login through a relay jump server and cannot connect directly to the server. However, when I use Remote SSH (Remote Secure Shell Protocol) to login via VS Code (Visual Studio Code, a visual code editor), I have never encountered the problem of connection disconnection, and the server and related configurations are consistent.
When using Positron, there is no error prompt when the connection is disconnected, and the disconnection pattern is very obvious—it basically disconnects every 5 minutes or so. I would be very grateful if you could provide me with some troubleshooting methods.

Thanks for the info! The VS Code implementation of Remote SSH is not open-source, so it makes sense that the behavior could be a little different, since we forked an open-source extension to accomplish this.

Do you have any additional extensions installed beyond that "Open Remote - SSH" extension that's built in to Positron? I see the prompt at the top of your screenshot that says Your [EMAIL] password: and I don't recognize that text. If not, do you know where that could be coming from?

If you press Escape when that prompt appears, are you still able to run things in the Terminal and Console?

Within the company, I also need to connect to the jump server first before connecting to the server, but I haven’t encountered a similar issue. Perhaps this isn’t due to the jump server.
