Several functions were not centered such that lower magnitudes would lead to greater distortions.

Several functions were not centered, causing lower magnitudes to lead to greater distortions. I'm proposing these trivial changes because they address my issue #24 and possibly #9
This code is untested as I don't have an environment to run it (please test if you have an environment set up)
