@JABelfiore The def comes straight from the ticket. But I suspect may be partly LLM hallucination combining description of skin and esophagus
The outermost layer of the stratified squamous epithelium lining the esophagus, composed of several layers of flattened, anucleated keratinocytes called corneocytes.
I don't find any reference to the cells in this layer as corneocytes and its not clear to me the they are anucleate. There may be some evidence for this in Rabbit https://doi.org/10.1016/0016-5085(92)90177-z, but not in human e.g. see https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/416593/
In general - it is better to use deep research. Check papers carefully for support. Also good to reflect different names. More recent papers seem to refer to this as the luminal layer.

@dragon-ai-agent please treat the original provided definition with some skepticism, as @dosumis suggests. Do a deep search for the latest research on this layer, including the PMIDs provided. If you have any problems either doing the search or accessing full texts, please report here so I can help configure you. Please post the results of your research incrementally in this PR (e.g. post a summary of your initial search, then as you read each paper, post summaries of each here, then post your synthesis. Then make the PR) |
Deep Research Analysis on Esophageal Epithelium Stratum Corneum@cmungall @dosumis I have conducted extensive research on the latest literature regarding esophageal epithelium structure and found significant issues with the current term definition. Would you like me to proceed with obsoleting this term or revising it with appropriate taxonomic restrictions? |
