A custom id mapping can be provided. Examples:
// do not trim the whitespace from the string ends (the current default)
catalog.setIdTransform(fn(s) { return s; })
// apply html whitespace trimming rules
catalog.setIdTransform(fn(s) { return s.replace(/\s+/g,' '); })
